“No
more Samsung Galaxy7 on US flights,” FAA vents
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), with
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Pipeline and Hazardous
Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), have given an emergency order to ban
all Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone devices from air transportation in the
United States.
I line with this order, Individuals who own or
possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their
person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on flights to, from, or
within the United States.
This prohibition includes all
Samsung Galaxy Note7 devices. The phones also cannot be shipped as air
cargo. The ban takes effect today Saturday, October 15, 2016, at noon ET.
It would be recalled that FAA had
issued several warnings to air travelers that the Samsung Galaxy7 has a faulty
battery that explodes and could be dangerous to air travel.
Samsung decided to halt production of the Note 7,
after an earlier statement that it had requested outlets to stop selling the
smartphone.
The electronic giant scrapped its flagship Galaxy
Note 7 smartphone on Tuesday less than two months after its launch, dealing a
huge blow to its reputation and outlook after failing to resolve safety
concerns.
The decision to scrap the Note 7 came after fresh
reports of fires in replacement devices prompted new warnings from regulators,
phone carriers and airlines.
